Introduction

《YELL/JOYFUL》是一张双A面单曲。单曲距离前作《萤之光》发行约2个月，是生物股长在2009年发行的第3张单曲。单曲在初回期间附有“生物卡片014和015”和“生物股长将‘YELL’送出购买者应征抽奖明信片（“いきものがかりが「YELL」を贈りに行きます！”ご購入者応募抽選ハガキ）”。首周销量和累积销量都超过当时最高的单曲《青鸟》。[2] 这亦是组合首张累积销量超过10万张的单曲。

生物股长以这张单曲首次于Oricon公信榜日榜获得第1位，并于同一周取得周榜第2位。[1]

《YELL》是NHK节目《大家的歌曲》8月、9月份的主题曲，以及2009年度“NHK全国学校音乐大赛”初中组的必选曲。《JOYFUL》是江崎固力果百奇的广告歌曲。[3]

歌曲
单曲收录了两首A面曲，分别是《YELL》和《JOYFUL》（じょいふる）。由于两首歌曲风格迥异，成员水野良树后在专辑《启程之歌》发行时期（2009年尾）接受访问时，有这两首歌能够共存“真的十分不可思议”[4]、“我们最近对吉冈能把两首完全相反的歌都唱出来的厉害声线刮目相看”[5] 等等的评价。

《YELL》在日本是一首相当知名的毕业歌曲。在Oricon的“毕业歌曲排行榜”上，2010年得第10位[6]，2011年得第6位[7]，2012年得第2位。[8]《JOYFUL》风格跟《YELL》完全相反，是一首十分跳脱的歌曲。在访问中，水野良树说这是他“非常振奋地写下的歌曲”，吉冈圣惠亦说“（歌曲）拿来时给吓了一跳”。
