威廉·兰尼曾是一个臭名远扬，无恶不作的盗贼和杀人犯。但自从他与漂亮的克劳迪娅结婚并生下两个孩子之后，他决定弃恶从善，过正常人的生活。不久他的妻子病逝，他满怀悲哀地带着两个孩子到堪萨斯郊外经营养猪场，用自己的辛勤劳动把孩子抚养成人。
