1962年9月26日，受埃及总统纳赛尔的影响，也门穆塔瓦基利亚王国国内发生了一场推翻君主的革命，矛头指向巴德尔政权。革命派控制了萨那，建立了阿拉伯也门共和国。1978年起以《一个国家的意志》为国歌。在这之前，1962年至1978年以《和平的土地》为国歌，但是1978年以来的《一个国家的意志》却更加广为传唱。1990年5月22日，北也门与南也门统一，建立“也门共和国”，定都萨那。《一个国家的意志》也不再使用。
