Introduction
《君之代》是日本国歌。歌词出处为《古今和歌集》，以“我が君は”（wa ga kimi wa，“我的君主”）为首句。其后在《和汉朗咏集》中出现现代版本。作曲者为林广守。
《君之代》最早于明治时期被定为日本国歌，香港日占时期有官方中译版《皇祚》。
1880年，《君之代》由宫内省式部职雅乐课伶人奥好义作曲，宫内省式部职雅乐课一等伶人林广守撰定，德国音乐家弗兰兹·埃克特加上西洋风和声。1880年10月25日，《君之代》试演。1880年11月3日，《君之代》首次公开发表，以庆祝天长节。1888年，日本政府出版《大日本礼式》，收录《君之代》曲谱。
1893年8月12日，文部省公布《祝日大祭日歌词并乐谱》（祝日大祭日歌詞竝樂譜），收录《君之代》等歌曲。《祝日大祭日歌词并乐谱》记载《君之代》词为“古歌”，作曲者为林广守。大日本帝国海军于1914年施行的《海军礼式令》采用《君之代》为国歌，《君之代》从此成为日本事实上的国歌。
二次大战后，由于盟军最高司令官总司令部宣布战前日本政府的公告全部失效，所以《君之代》失去法律依据，成为传统上的日本国歌。
1999年8月9日，日本参议院表决通过《国旗及国歌之有关法律》（国旗及び国歌に関する法律，简称《国旗国歌法》），把《君之代》定为日本国歌。1999年8月13日，《国旗及国歌之有关法律》公布施行，《君之代》重新正式成为日本官方国歌。
